The taxation of multinational corporate groups has become a major concern in the academic and political debate on the future of international taxation. In particular the arm’s length standard for the determination of transfer prices is under increasing pressure. Many countries and international bodies are now taking a closer look at the use of transfer prices for profit shifting and are exploring alternative mechanisms such as formulary apportionment for the allocation of taxing rights. With regard to this topic, this volume is the first to offer a concise analysis of transfer pricing in the international tax arena from an interdisciplinary legal and economic point of view. Fundamentals such as the efficient allocation of resources within multi-unit firms and distortions between different goals of transfer pricing as well as different aspects of it in tax and corporate law, the traditional OECD approach and practical aspects concerning intangibles, capital and risk allocation are covered by outstanding authors.

ISBN: B017APD53Q
Title: Life at the Dakota Pdf New York's Most Unusual Address
A history of the Manhattan building and its famous tenants, from Lauren Bacall to John Lennon, by the New York Times–bestselling author of “Our Crowd”.

When Singer sewing machine tycoon Edward Clark built a luxury apartment building on Manhattan’s Upper West Side in the late 1800s, it was derisively dubbed “the Dakota” for being as far from the center of the downtown action as its namesake territory on the nation’s western frontier. Despite its remote location, the quirky German Renaissance–style castle, with its intricate façade, peculiar interior design, and gargoyle guardians peering down on Central Park, was an immediate hit, particularly among the city’s well-heeled intellectuals and artists.

Over the next century it would become home to an eclectic cast of celebrity residents—including Boris Karloff, Lauren Bacall, Leonard Bernstein, singer Roberta Flack (the Dakota’s first African-American resident), and John Lennon and Yoko Ono—who were charmed by its labyrinthine interior and secret passageways, its mysterious past, and its ghosts. Stephen Birmingham, author of the New York society classic “Our Crowd”, has written an engrossing history of the first hundred years of one of the most storied residential addresses in Manhattan and the legendary lives lived within its walls.

A Marvelous look at the Dakota! i bought this because of an "ad" on facebook-it promised a view of John Lennon's and Yoko's life at the Dakota. what i got was an awesome book that delved into the complete history of the marvelous apartment complex and the many people who have lived there and the rich background of how it came to be the Landmark it is in NYC....Loved this book...a great read!!!When Can I Move In? If there ever was a book that has it all, a book that holds your attention, a book that makes you want to know more, this is it.“Life at the Dakota” is a socioeconomic history of the famous New York City residential building. Yes, that one – the one where scenes from "Rosemary’s Baby" was filmed, the one where Jason Robards once slept overnight at the wheel of his car, the one where a resident displayed a her favorite stuffed horse, the one where John Lennon was murdered. The Dakota was constructed between 1880 and 1884 and opened October 27, 1884. It was built by the architectural firm of Henry Janeway Hardenbergh with the design by Edward Clark, the head of the Singer Sewing Machine Company. The Dakota was, indeed, a building well ahead of its time, with central heating, its own in-house power plant, the first elevators installed in a residential building, a gymnasium, and much more. Before it was opened for residency, all of the apartments were leased, and no vacancies existed from then until 1929.The book begins with an in-depth history of New York and the Central Park West area, including the dichotomy of the lifestyles and economic factors between the East and West Sides. Here we learn about the Who’s Who and Who Wants to Be and Who Doesn’t Care Who’s Who.The original apartments, dining room, gymnasium, tennis court, servants’ rooms, laundry rooms, wine cellar, et cetera were lavish or simply practical, according to function. No cost was spared. We find that over the years, even at the onset, residents took to moving and rebuilding walls and reconfiguring the space. One resident even had a sunken pool installed, only to be covered over at another time, and then rediscovered during a future remodeling project decades later. There are numerous stories about many of the residents and the employees, their quirkiness, their practicalities, and their contributions and influence on The Dakota. There are people whose names were, or are, well-known, and those who are now shadows in history or pop culture, but intriguing nonetheless. The building became a co-op in the early 1960s, and we learn how that occurred with all its brouhaha, and how that continues to impact its operation today – or at least until 1979 when this book was published. This is a very tightly-written book and is, therefore, extremely interesting and difficult to put down. Each chapter is filled with so much material on the people, politics, cloak-and-dagger tomfooleries, and economic data that I want to learn more, yet it’s a shame that the book ends its account in 1979. It practically screams for an addendum to share what happened since then.I recommend “Life at the Dakota” for anyone who likes history, architecture, mystery, intrigue, and/or entertaining ideas. Yes, it even has a trio of old cocktail recipes. There is a book that has it all, a book that holds your attention, a book that makes you want to know more – this is it!Interesting but don't expect the John Lennon story Like several other reviewers I didn't realize it was published a long time ago before the John Lennon shooting. But it was a good historical study and althoughI wasn't familiar with most of the tenants it was interesting to learn about them. I'm amazed how loosey goosey the managers have been over the years on the maintenance and fee collection. I don't know how they've kept the place running. I'm on the side of getting the outside power washed - it looks dirty to me. Others think it's part of the aura of the place and also are afraid the exterior would fall apart and be too expensive to repair. So I guess I would say it's an interesting read but I thought it would have more current information.

Title: Grit Pdf The Power of Passion and Perseverance

In this must-listen book for anyone striving to succeed, pioneering psychologist Angela Duckworth shows parents, educators, students, and businesspeople - both seasoned and new - that the secret to outstanding achievement is not talent but a focused persistence called "grit".

Why do some people succeed and others fail? Sharing new insights from her landmark research on grit, MacArthur "genius" Angela Duckworth explains why talent is hardly a guarantor of success. Rather, other factors can be even more crucial, such as identifying our passions and following through on our commitments.

Drawing on her own powerful story as the daughter of a scientist who frequently bemoaned her lack of smarts, Duckworth describes her winding path through teaching, business consulting, and neuroscience, which led to the hypothesis that what really drives success is not genius but a special blend of passion and long-term perseverance. As a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, Duckworth created her own "character lab" and set out to test her theory.

Here, she takes listeners into the field to visit teachers working in some of the toughest schools, cadets struggling through their first days at West Point, and young finalists in the National Spelling Bee. She also mines fascinating insights from history and shows what can be gleaned from modern experiments in peak performance. Finally, she shares what she's learned from interviewing dozens of high achievers - from J.P. Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon to the cartoon editor of The New Yorker to Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll.

Winningly personal, insightful, and even life changing, Grit is a book about what goes through your head when you fall down and how that - not talent or luck - makes all the difference.

If you saw the author's TED talk on grit, there is not much you will learn from reading this book I normally never post a review on Amazon, but in this case I simply could not stop mysefl from posting it, as I had great expectations about this book after seeying the TED talk of Ms. Duckworth and hearing a Freakonomics podcast with her. In the end, I was disappointed. Please also excuse grammar/ spelling, as I'm writing this from Russia and I'm not a native English speaker. This book tells us that grit (and not talent or luck) is essential for success in life. The reader will find multiple anecdotes on how so-and-so achieved much by perseverence, passion and not giving up.So half of the book is dedicated to showing a reader how important is grit for success (quite convincingly, but to my taste, way too extensively; couple of anecdotes and studies mentioned would have done as good as these several chapters). Along with anecdotes some (quite robust) scientific evidence is given. What the book lacks completely, is scientifically based advice HOW TO BUILD GRIT. As someone, who struggles to be gritty in my daily life, I had great hopes to find valuable hints in this book. There are a few, but very "soft" ones (like the author assumes they should work, but being honest with the reader, concedes that there is no evidence behind these tips).I found this book to be the perfect hybrid of informative and motivating I found this book to be the perfect hybrid of informative and motivating. If you're looking for a book that will help educate you as to what you should do in your life and how you can be successful doing it, then this is the book for you. It lays out chapter-by-chapter both the science and the steps you'll need to take in order to make changes in your life that will lead you to success or at least put you on the path towards it. The mix of anecdotes, profiles, scientific studies, and personal stories all combine to form a really easy-to-read and educational book that is laid out and displayed in a simple yet interesting way. Below I took a crack at the things I'm going to do now going forward as a result of reading this book:1. Define what success looks like (i.e., I want to get into politics and would eventually like to become a Senator)2. Clearly define my goals in terms of short-term, medium-term and long-term3. Assign myself stretch goals4. Reflect and learn from any obstacles or challenges or failures faced5. Begin deliberate practice in my field (repeatedly stepping outside my comfort zone and trying activities beyond my current abilities)6. Seek a coach and / or mentor7. Gather and then grow a support network of friends, family, and industry professionals8. Become even more obsessed / interested in my field and consume myself with news, books, articles, lectures, etc.9. Learn from others who are where I want to be10. Never become complacent or satisfiedNothing new here. Save yourself the read. First off, this book is very well written. Has a nice flow to it and is easy to understand. That said...This book reminds me of how the government will spend millions of dollars on a study to tell you something you already know: "After an exhaustive multi-year study costing $10 million dollars, we have concluded that ice is cold to the touch." This book is very much like that. I can't think of one single concept presented in the book that isn't already common knowledge. Example: Hard work and perseverance can make up for lack of talent. Who doesn't already know this? Here's another one: People who like what they are doing (passion), usually do better than those who do not. Every single point made in this book is about that profound. And, if you are looking for proven ways to increase you own "grit," forget about it--they are not there. This material might make for a good 10-page whitepaper, but it isn't nearly deep enough to make into a 300 page book. Because of that, there is just major filler in the form of stories about successful people.Lastly, like another reviewer pointed out, this book has a self-righteous undertone to it. The author burns a lot of ink making sure you think she's smart and important.I'll save you $20: The most successful people work really hard at something they like and don't give up.

By writing about empathy in the context of our children's increased technology use, Dr. Borba penetrates the often hidden world of electronics. She does so with a science-based perspective that mirrors our own common sense. UnSelfie is a must-read for parents, teachers, and policy-makers." But in order to succeed in today’s world, it’s just as important to be kind, compassionate, and concerned about the well-being of others. If you care about cultivating these traits in your child – and you should – you’ll heed Michele Borba’s wise advice.” (Laurence Steinberg, Ph.D., author of The Ten Basic Principles of Good Parenting)“As a parent and educator, I understand why so many of us are worried about the impact of constant connectivity and self-focus our culture so often glorifies. But Michele Borba's UnSelfie gives us such a powerful tool to counteract these seemingly overwhelming challenges. She has wonderful and practical ways to reconnect with our children and guide them so they can develop healthy relationships with others. And really her advice doesn't only apply to our children--we would all do well to follow Borba's advice.I hadn't even finished it and I was already applying her wisdom to how I am raising my sons.” (Rosalind Wiseman, author of Queen Bees and Wannabes) Michele Borba, EdD, is an internationally renowned educational psychologist and an expert in parenting, bullying, and character development. One of the foremost authorities on childhood development in the country, she is a regular NBC contributor who appears regularly on Today and has been featured as an expert on Dateline, The View, Dr. Phil, NBC Nightly News, Fox & Friends, Dr. Oz, and The Early Show, among many others. She lives in Palm Springs, California, with her husband, and she is the mother of three grown sons.

Hailed as “an absolute must-read” (Jean Twenge) and a book that “will change your kids’ lives” (Jack Canfield), UnSelfie by Dr. Michele Borba explains what parents and educators MUST do to combat the growing empathy crisis among children today—including a 9-step empathy-building program with tips to guide kids from birth through college, and beyond.

Teens today are forty percent less empathetic than they were thirty years ago. Why is a lack of empathy—which goes hand-in-hand with the self-absorption epidemic Dr. Michele Borba calls the Selfie Syndrome—so dangerous? First, it hurts kids’ academic performance and leads to bullying behaviors. Also, it correlates with more cheating and less resilience. And once children grow up, a lack of empathy hampers their ability to collaborate, innovate, and problem-solve—all must-have skills for the global economy.

In UnSelfie Dr. Borba pinpoints the forces causing the empathy crisis and shares a revolutionary, researched-based, nine-step plan for reversing it.

The good news? Empathy is a trait that can be taught and nurtured. Dr. Borba offers a framework for parenting that yields the results we all want: successful, happy kids who also are kind, moral, courageous, and resilient. UnSelfie is a blueprint for parents and educators who want to kids shift their focus from I, me, and mine…to we, us, and ours.

Every teacher, parent, grandparent, foster parent, aunt, uncle, friend should read this! First off, I will buy this book as a gift for all new parents I know!I will use this information and share with educators in my work on developing positive school culture---can't wait!. I have always been a fan of Dr. Michelle Borba and have heard her speak many times. I have always admired her passion and insight on reducing bullying in schools and now this book---I am promoting it everywhere! Thank you for doing the research, being in the field, talking to children, and increasing our awareness on how to best raise children. This book should be used in all parenting classes.Dr. Debbie SacksTwitter: @debrasacksdsacks@clsteam.netUseful for Parents of School-Aged Kids While I did like the book and found many useful ideas, this is a book I will have to come back to once my own children are in elementary school. Most of the ideas and lessons are for school-aged children, although there are a few that you can start from preschool age. There is a key for each activity section that says All, L (little kids; toddlers and preschoolers), S (school age), T (teens), etc, but I found quite a lot of the activities for little kids to be too advanced for my 3 year old. For now, I’ll do what I did find she-appropriate, and I will definitely re-read this when my children are older.Great book I am an elementary school counselor and I love this book. It has made me view things differently. I am now working harder to incorporated teaching empathy to my students in my guidance lessons.

Good update from the 2017, but has ink blotching problems I'm enjoying the updated version, but unfortunately both books I ordered had the same ink splashing on the same exact pages. Still usable as I only found it on two pages, but there needs to be some quality control.Your Go To for Step 1! I was a little reluctant to purchase this since I had already done all my annotations on the previous edition of the book. However, due to my exam being really close, I couldnt wait for the ebook to come out so I went ahead and ordered the hardcopy, and boy am I glad that I did!Not only does this edition have some newer content (eg immune evasion by cancer) but also the pre-existing information has been updated and in some cases rearranged in a much more presentable way (eg, the horrible Neurocutaneous Syndromes now seem less daunting). New images (eg histology slides for the Transplant rejection reactions), charts (eg Diagnosis of HIV) and tables (eg different radiculopathies of the lower extermity) are commendable.A minor glitch for me was that some of the pages had ink bleeds on them but that can be easily overlooked compared to the overall worth of this book. Keep up the good work FirstAidTeam!!great as expected great help for step 1.fast delivery
